What is wrong with heavy metal musicians getting into fisticuffs these days? Shouldn't they be channeling their aggression into their music, or, at the very least, doing their lyrical tradition proud and instead fight dragons with broadswords?

First Kid Rock goes Tommy Lee at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards. Then, at an after-party for those same awards, Mastodon member Brent Hinds got tuned in a drunken altercation with System Of A Down's bassist Shavo Odadjian and now Canada's own metal avengers, 3 Inches Of Blood, have scrapped with Saxon at the Hard Rock Hell Festival in the U.K.

3 Inches Of Blood drummer Alexei Rodriguez allegedly attacked his Saxon counterpart, Nigel Glockler, backstage at the festival this past weekend. The altercation left the Saxon drummer with broken glasses and a black eye.

In the wake of this unfortunate event, the other members of the Vancouver orc-slaying act have done the proper Canadian thing and apologized. They've also ejected Rodriguez from the band for his behaviour.

According to Classic Rock magazine, 3 Inches Of Blood have issued the following apology to Saxon:

"Dear Nigel and Saxon,

"Oh behalf of all of the members of 3 Inches of Blood we would like to express the utmost regret and sincere apology regarding the actions of our drummer, Alexei Rodriguez, that occurred in Minehead in the early hours of November 10.

"In no way were Alexei's actions a reflection of our band. Needless to say we were completely shocked and horrified to learn about these events and are grateful that Saxon was still able to perform. We have complete respect for Saxon as a band and as individuals and would never want anyone's livelihood as a musician to be jeopardized for any reason.

"Alexei's behavior was appalling and completely unacceptable and it is our decision to immediately remove him from the band. We would like to attempt to repair the damage that has been caused and hope you will not think of 3 Inches of Blood as a band that habitually acts in such inappropriate ways.

"That you for taking the time to read this and continuing to make great music.

"Sincerely,

"Cam Pipes, Justin Hagberg, Shane Clark, Nick Cates and Jaime Hooper of 3 Inches of Blood."

We hope that, with this incident behind them, the remaining members can go back to seeking the deaths of enemies of metal, as they promised in their 2004 single "Deadly Sinners," instead of attacking their fellow goat-throwing comrades in arms.
