Oprah Winfrey plans to do a show on domestic violence this week.By Gil Kaufman

Chris Brown has spoken often in the past about how growing up in a household where he witnessed alleged acts of domestic abuse against his mother affected his views on violence in relationships.

An interview the singer gave on New York's Power 105 in December has cast an even more contradictory light on the singer's alleged altercation with girlfriend Rihanna, for which he has been charged with felony counts of assault and making criminal threats.

In the interview, which was conducted by DJ Clue, Brown talked about the origins of his relationship with Rihanna, dealing with the paparazzi and what the DJ described as temperamental "island [i.e. West Indian] girls."

Clue, who at one point referred to Brown as "the innocent type," asked when the couple might get married, to which Brown replied, "Never! ... I'm too young."

After getting Brown to open up about how he met Rihanna, who is from Barbados, Clue asked, "She's an island girl, I'm a island guy, so I know the island girls wild out ... have you ever walked into a Jimmy Choo heel?"

Brown answered no, then offered, "We don't be fightin' like that."

"Yet," Clue cut in.

"Not yet," Brown continued. "I laugh stuff off and walk away. I do the grown man."

While Brown and Rihanna's spokespeople have declined a number of requests for comment on the case, that didn't stop Oprah Winfrey from weighing in on her show last week. On Friday, Winfrey announced that she will be doing a program this week about domestic violence, inspired by the Brown/ Rihanna saga.

"Love doesn't hurt," Winfrey said on her show. "I want to do a show about it, dedicated to all the Rihannas of the world." Then, looking directly into the camera, Winfrey added, "If a man hits you once, he will hit you again. He will hit you again."

Over the weekend, quoting unnamed sources, TMZ reported that Rihanna had told police that Brown had beaten her before and that the violence had been escalating. The site also reported that Brown will seek a plea deal in the case.
