Coldplay premiered their massive new single "Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall" earlier this summer, and on Wednesday night, the British rock band appeared on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" and debuted another new track, "Charlie Brown," from their forthcoming album. The performance marked the first time they had played either "Charlie Brown" or "Every Teardrop" on American TV.

"Charlie Brown" is an atmospheric, anthemic track that can be described as Coldplay doing Coldplay. A thumping beat danced behind the glittering guitars of the song as Martin went on with gloomy observations and meditations like "I stole a key/ And took a car downtown where the lost boys meet/ Took a car downtown and took what they offered me," and "In my scarecrow dreams/ When they smashed into smithereens/ Be a bright red rose come burst to concrete/ Be a cartoon heart."

During the episode, Kimmel shared that the band was the first ever to play his show. And when asked what they've been up to in the years since, Martin joked, "Will [Champion] worked at FedEx and the rest of us run a pet shop."

The guys performed in front of a large crowd at UCLA's Los Angeles Tennis Center as part of the Samsung AT&T Summer Krush concert series. According to Billboard.com, the show was a full-scale concert that helped raise money for the Grammy Foundation's Grammy in the Schools music education program.

The 90-minute set included 18 songs, which were a mix of old favorites ("Yellow," "Clocks," "Viva La Vida") and a number of tunes off their new album ("Major Minus," "Moving to Mars"), as well as a tribute to Amy Winehouse — the band played Winehouse's "Rehab" leading into "Fix You," a song Chris Martin wrote for wife Gwyneth Paltrow after her father died.
