After an ornate moving portrait for "Power" and an elaborate short film for "Runaway," Kanye West commissioned a video for the next single from My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, the Jay-Z- and Nicki Minaj-assisted "Monster."

In early December, a clip featuring Rick Ross arrived online, in which the Miami rapper chowed down on a piece of bloody meat. That was followed by a trailer a few days later with more gore than the initial tease.

The racy video then hit the Web a week later; however, it never made it to broadcast television. Over the weekend, reports on various entertainment blogs insisted that the "Monster" clip was banned from MTV.

The video was submitted to MTV, but it wasn't banned; rather, edits were requested based on the channel's decency standards.

"MTV has not banned Kanye West's 'Monster' video," the network said in a statement to MTV News. "We have been in constant communication with the label regarding this matter. However, we are still awaiting the edits we requested in order for the video to be suitable for broadcast."

The video borrowed liberally from horror-movie tropes ("Saw," "Night of the Living Dead" and "American Psycho," among others), but critics and fans lashed out at the production as "disturbing."

After the backlash, it appeared West backed away from the piece, which saw him performing with dead women at his bedside, Jay-Z rapping with a naked corpse face-down on a leather couch behind him and Nicki Minaj appearing in an executioner's chair.

As of press time, West had not commented on the matter.

Last month, West premiered his latest video, the Hype Williams-directed "All of the Lights" featuring Rihanna.
