Just before Michael Jackson's mother, Katherine, spoke to Oprah Winfrey on Monday, T-Pain told MTV News' Sway about reworking the musical icon's classic track "P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)." The cut is on Quincy Jones' Q: Soul Bossa Nostra LP, which hit stores Tuesday.

"Aw, man, it was a mission, something I had to do, something Jackson asked me to do himself," Pain said at Lil Wayne's welcome-home party in Miami. "So it was basically a mission carried out by Quincy Jones. I think it's gonna be cool, 'cause, you know, before Jackson passed away, he was gonna do a tribute album of himself. It was gonna be everybody remaking his songs, and he was gonna be featured on the songs."

The Tallahassee, Florida, native says he wasn't the only Konvict artist included on the Jackson tribute project.

"It was gonna be Akon and him, me and him, Robin Thicke and him," T-Pain said. "So after I left his house — I had the pleasure of meeting him — I got a call from his lawyer, [who] passed away, too, right after him ... saying he wanted me to redo that song on the tribute album, and then he passed away. Then I guess Quincy Jones was just keeping the legacy going."

T-Pain said Jackson asked him to join the tribute project because of a certain bar jam.

"He said he had to meet me because 'Bartender' is the only song that he had sent somebody to the record store to get for him," said a proud Pain. "So that helped me out with the rest of my life!"

Jones' Q album also features remakes of the musical legend's classic "Secret Garden" as well as "You Put a Move on My Heart," which introduced the world to singer, and NBA star Grant Hill's wife, Tamia.
