Fresh from their 2010 MTV Europe Music Awards win for Best Live Act earlier in the show, Linkin Park showed off the performance skills that scored the hardware.
Performing for throngs of fans at Madrid's Puerta de Alcalá — the venue where Katy Perry rocked an explosive rendition of "Firework" — the collective played their A Thousand Suns track "Waiting for the End." Donning a dark beanie and jacket, LP's Chester Bennington led the band through a somewhat toned-down version of the track, as Brad Delson strummed along on guitar. Hard-core Madrid fans took it all in as the crew spread across the massive stage. Embodying the song's lyric "With fists flying up in the air," a sea of Spanish concertgoers thrust their hands above their heads.
Fans who couldn't make the show can see the EMA-winning crew up close when the band hits the road next year. Bennington dished to MTV News last month that the group has plans to go on tour at the top of 2011.
"We'll be touring in the U.S. come the end of January; we'll most likely be touring from the end of January until probably the middle of March or into April," he told MTV News in September. The frontman also reflected on the group's growing status as an international act, which was clear from the crowds packing the plaza in Madrid.
"[It's] interesting because we've always kicked off our touring cycles playing in the U.S., but, crazily enough, we've kind of become a worldwide band ... but we're coming back, and it's going to be pretty badass," he assured fans.
The 2010 EMAs will air on MTV2 on Sunday at 9 p.m. ET, and an edited, performance-heavy version will be broadcast Friday, November 12, at 9 p.m. ET on MTV.
