We already know Kanye West has plans on revolutionizing music with his singing on 808s & Heartbreak. And he's never been shy about big upping himself at awards shows. But the Louis Vuitton Don apparently does have a humble side, and he's reportedly willing to prove it by taking an entry-level position at his favorite fashion house.
West recently said he's planning on taking time off from the music industry sometime soon to pursue one of his other passions: fashion. Specifically, he wants to learn about design — which he regularly explores on his blog — by possibly taking an internship at Louis Vuitton or with his designer friend, Raf Simons.
Even before he starts fetching coffee, it's not like he hasn't already put in some serious time on the design side. West has been working on a jewelry collection with one of his favorite artists, Takashi Murakami, as well as a men's shoe line for Vuitton and has his own clothing line Past Tell, which has been three years in the making and is slated to debut next year.
"I wanna make music and I like to perform. I like that, but I really like to design," Kanye told The Associated Press last month. "I'm going to go and take an internship with something and just do something that's like completely normal, and just rap on the weekends or something."
A spokesperson for the rapper could not be reached for comment at press time, but Belgian designer Simons told The New York Times this week that he was "blown away from the planet" when he heard West's comments.
"I know he's very serious about this — I don't take it as a joke — but how can I imagine him being my intern? It's a very extreme situation," Simons told the paper on Wednesday.
