British producer has had a string of success with big records by Em, Nicki Minaj and B.o.B.By Jayson Rodriguez

Producer Alex Da Kid knows that what appears to be his "breakout" run — with three scorchers in Eminem's "Love the Way You Lie," Nicki Minaj's "Massive Attack" and B.o.B's "Airplanes" — is really him having the good fortune of multiple labels releasing his productions around the same time.

He admits, though, that his phone has been ringing more lately as a result.

The British producer started out as an intern at MTV overseas before he realized he had a different life calling. He flirted with FruityLoops, crafting beats he called "the worst," and went to school to study audio technology. One of his teachers was already well-connected in the music industry and helped mentor the budding producer.

He hesitates to describe his sound, saying he wants to work with a range of artists. He does, however, own up to not being the best musician just yet.

"I play guitar really badly, and I play keyboard really badly," he told MTV News, laughing. "I'm like a bad musician. I grew up in London, and it's like, New York, there's a lot of different people and different cultures. I grew up around a lot of that. And my music is a reflection of that. I'm working on a lot of rock projects at the moment. I work on pop. I work on grimy hip-hop and everything in between. I don't really box myself in. I wanna be like a new version of Quincy Jones, where I can bounce around in different genres and still be credible and still make it work.

"I want all the money," he added, playfully.

Currently, Alex Da Kid is in the studio with Rob Thomas and Rihanna and submitting beats to the Clipse for their next project. He also recently inked his first artist, Skyler Grey, who helped him pen Rihanna's chorus for Eminem's "Love the Way You Lie."
