The portion of a previously unheard Michael Jackson track that leaked on Monday (January 4), "Another Day," was not supposed to be released and is not the finished version of a song the late pop icon recorded with Lenny Kravitz several years ago.

Seemingly plopped down in the middle of a lush tropical forest, Kravitz posted a video message on Monday to respond to the news about the leaked tune. Wearing a plaid shirt, jeans, sunglasses and sporting a grown-out mini-Afro, Kravitz explained, "I just want to reach out to you so I can set the record straight regarding the Michael Jackson track 'Another Day.'

"As you know and have heard, part of the song leaked — not by me, because mine has been locked up in a vault since we recorded it," he said. "The version that's out is a minute and 30 seconds, roughly, of the track — not mixed, but it is the track." Kravitz said he has no idea who the DJ speaking over the track is — one person identifies themselves as "Kels" and his partner, whose name sounds like DJ Thucky, or Ducky — nor how they obtained the music.

"I don't know what their purpose is, but that person has nothing to do with the track," he said, noting that the song was recorded by himself and MJ and that he wrote, produced and played all of the instruments on the tune. "It was one of the most amazing musical experiences that I've ever had," he added. "It was done by two people who had respect for each other and who love music — that was it."

According to TMZ, Jackson's label Sony Music and his estate lawyers are working to get the unfinished song pulled from the Internet as soon as possible. Spokespeople for Jackson could not be reached for comment at press time.

Kravitz said he hopes the situation gets straightened out as soon as possible so fans can enjoy the finished track in its entirety. "That's all being worked out as I sit here in the bush," he said, as a wind whipped up the palm fronds surrounding him. "I'll get back to you as soon as I have more information."
