Lil Wayne and an entourage travelling with him through Texas have been detained by authorities after U.S. Border Patrol agents found marijuana on the rapper's two tour buses.

The Cash Money lyricist was stopped by agents on Friday (December 18) while en route to a scheduled performance in Laredo, Texas. The stop was reportedly routine, but after a Border Patrol K-9 smelled the drug odor, authorities searched the rapper's two tour buses. Both vehicles were found to be carrying marijuana onboard, according to a spokesman for the agency.

A total of 12 individuals were detained for the offense, Joe Trevino, an agent with the Border Patrol, told MTV News.

The incident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. local time and the group was still being held even as Lil Wayne's scheduled performance was set for 7:30 p.m. The concert was postponed as a result of the no-show by the rapper, according to the venue's Web site. Lil Wayne also as a show scheduled in Texas on Saturday, though it's uncertain if he'll perform as of press time.

A press release issued to MTV News by the Border Patrol on Friday night said the rapper's case has been referred to the Brooks County Sheriff's Office in Falfurrias, Texas.

No charges have been brought up against the group, according to spokesmen for both the Border Patrol and at the Brooks County Sheriff's office. When contacted by MTV News, both outlets said investigations are underway. A legal expert who spoke to MTV News advised that authorities can hold suspects for up to 24 hours without charging them.

The ordeal comes at an inconvenient time for Lil Wayne. He's due in a New York court on February 9, where he's expected to be sentenced to up to one year in prison for attempted gun possession stemming from a 2007 arrest in Manhattan. The rapper also has had legal troubles in Arizona, where he was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.
