The Sacramento Bee is reporting that
Deftones bassist Chi Cheng is in a coma in a San Jose hospital after a car accident in Santa Clara on Monday. The band's vocalist, Chino Moreno, had only this to say:

I don't know everything that's going on -- I just know it's very serious. I'm on my way to be with his family, I'm pretty freaked out about it.

The band was working on their sixth studio album, Eros, set for a spring 2009 release.
