All week long, there's been one Video Music Awards performance that everyone has been talking about ... even if very few people actually know anything about it.
It's Lady Gaga's sure-to-surprise VMA set, and it's already drawn rave reviews from the likes of Perez Hilton, who discussed details with Gaga last month in Japan and promised that the performance would be "next level." All week, as the VMA set was being constructed and show rehearsals got under way, it's been the subject of constant whispers and speculation. People cannot wait to see what Gaga's got in store for us on Sunday night.
Of course, it hasn't helped matters that Gaga's rehearsals are closed-door affairs, meaning that only a select few VMA VIPs have been allowed to see it. But after days of trying, we finally managed to corner one of them long enough to get some information.
During a run-through yesterday, MTV News spoke to VMA Creative Director Lee Lodge — the man whose basic job description is "the guy who makes everything and everyone associated with the show look amazing" — about Gaga's performance. And while he wasn't exactly forthcoming with specifics (he's afraid of ninjas, as you'll see), he did make it sound like it could become one for the history books.
"There's one other look, which is fantastic, which is Gaga. The Gaga performance could be a classic VMA performance," Lodge said. "There are some other great looks in the show — Beyoncé is fabulous — but I think the Gaga look ... this could be a classic, Madonna-like performance. But if I was to tell you [any details], the Haus of Gaga would ninja-kill me with lace and fingernails."
